8th May

Tools:- 8m tape, 1m fold rule, sharp pencil, square, radial arm saw, compressed air nail gun

Hazards:- radial saw, nail guns [noise, miss use of these tools]

Protective Gear:- ear muffs and safety boots, safety glasses

morning session was spent on group presentation on piles [1 hour]

the rest of the day was spent measuring the last of the bottom and top plates, then we started tp nail them together - studs, timmers, blocks and gwangs, then the lintel, finished off with the jack studs

7th May

• Tools:- 8m tape, 1m fold rule, sharp pencil, square,
• Hazards:- frames laid out so had to be careful not to trip over them / noise from the saws and nail guns
• Protective Gear:- ear muffs and safety boots

The morning session was sent on piles. In our groups we had to look up Piles [we had foundation piles]

The rest of the day was sent out finishing of marking all the top and bottom plates. Then we started to put the frames together

2nd may

• tools: 30m tape, 8m tape, fold rule, pencil [sharp], sliding square

First part of class was sent on learning the different parts of a timber frame - top plates, bottom plate, lintel [placed above opening, taking the load of then], timmer studs [holds the lintel up] sill trimmer [windows sit on], studs [take the verical loas from the top plate to the bottom plate] dwangs [bracing between the studs], blocks [single - exterior corners, and doubles - wear wall meet], jack studs [below and above openings / not a full stud] double studs [2 studs next to trimmer studs].
Then we did an exercise describing each part, giving it to another student to work out what we had just described

The rest of the day was sent making in all these parts on the bottom and top plates

30th April

• Tools:  8m tape, fold ruke, pencil [sharp], chalk line, radial saw
• Safety equipment: safety boots, ear muffs, safety glasses
• Hazards: radial saw

Today we started on measuring out where the walls will go on the floor according to the plans
 We started measuring 90mm in from each corner with our 8m tape [using our fold rules to make sure we are measuring off the boundry joist and not the flooe edge, as might be off by a couple of mm's

Then we worked on our apprentice dairies  to make sure we are up to date and have put the right things in decribing what we have done over the last few weeks

A few of us also helped unload a truck of material

Just before afternoon break a couple of us started on the setting out the bottom and top plates
